Description of WISC-IV Scores
By Inderbir Kaur Sandhu, Ph.D
Q: My year 6 daughter recently had an WISC-IV and her results are:
FSIQ: 71
WMI: 65
PSI: 94
PRI: 65
VCI: 83
I know the large discrepancy means something, just not sure what. She is having issues with Maths and English, I just don't know why. Any thoughts?
A: Based on the overall composite scores, your daughter's FSIQ of 71 places her in the borderline range. The other scores PSI is average (her highest score); VCI is low average and her lowest scores are WMI and PRI, which are in the extremely low range. This is indicative of a learning concern.
The WISC-IV is not a diagnostic test but it could possibly point out to special groups with learning concerns. She could have combination of disorders such as a reading, written expression and mathematics disorder. You would need to test her further for all these concerns. Early intervention is the best to help address her concerns. Do seek help from a professional for further help and intervention. Wishing you all the best.
